Situation
The Senior Aerospace Company of Sharon, MA, a leading Aerospace, Medical and Semiconductor Industry Supplier, sought to expand and integrate one of their current manufacturing areas. The requirement was for a fully integrated and automated 1200 Ton Precision Hydraulic Press. The desired location has a maximum ceiling requirement of 11 feet.
This new press would be used to form precision metal bellows and be integrated into their existing manufacturing area consisting of older, lower tonnage presses.
Resolution
Senior Aerospace found the solution to their problem by purchasing a made-to-order Beckwood Hydraulic Press.
This 1200 Ton 4-Post press was specifically designed to meet their needs; fit in their 130" ceiling requirements, while also giving them the integration capabilities, 1200 Ton force, quick die change and precise pressure repeatability that they needed.
It was integrated with a push-pull servo feed system, straightener, pay out reel and scrap chopper. The press and feed system utilize a single control system for all run parameters, which provide for single platform responsibility and ease of use. The Allen Bradley SLC 5/05 PLC control system with Mitsubishi Operator Interface was designed for 500 parts or recipe job storage, and serve to coordinate the entire system with all of the other machines in the assembly area.
Dynamic Pressure Control is utilized for highly precise pressure repeatability while a QDC system that includes a die lift with a hydraulic die clamping systems was incorporated for quick die change.
